Melbourne, 26th Novbr. 1890
Sir
I have the honor to submit for your favorable consideration the desirability of increasing the pay of George French from 4 shillings to 5 shillings a day. This young man, who is now nearly 19 years of age, has been employed in my branch for a lengthened period during 4 days a week and has acquired a good knowledge of his duties. His term of service expires on 31st December, and I would solicit your permission, to engage him for three months more, viz. to the end of March 1891. Payment is rendered out of my vote for Contingencies, which includes "Temporary Assistance".

Your most obedient servant
