My dear Baron,
Sir S. Davenport submitted your letter
to the Hon. the Commissioner of Crown Lands asking that Mr. Brown, the Government
Geologist
might be allowed to go to Melbourne to attend the meeting of your Commission
— Mr. Brown ha[ving] unfortunately left town on official business, the essential
suggestions connected with the conduct of the proposed explorations were however submitted
by the Hon. Secretary of the Adelaide Society to the Secretary of the Geographical
Society in Melbourne; in addition to which when the scheme has been matured & the
officers appointed, a plan will be compiled for the guidance of the leader of the
party, giving the geological as well as the topographical information as required,
as far as such can be done by this office.
