Should the trustees order books again hereafter, dear Dr Bride, then I would advise,
to include among them: Hombron & Jacquinot's
Botanique du voyage au pôle sud et dans l'Oceanie, in 2 volumes, 1845 & 1853, illustrated.
I am gratified, to learn, that your health became much improved through your voyage,
and I am looking forward with pleasure to meeting you again. I trust you will renew
your support also to our geographic branch.

Hombron & Jacquinot (1845, 1853). That is, the volumes which were prepared by C. Montagne,
'Plantes cellulaires' (1845) and J. Decaisne, 'Plantes vasculaires' (1853), but published
as 'Par MM. Hombron et Jacquinot'.

M's request was approved and the volumes were ordered. M was informed on 29 December
1890; letter not found. The on-line catalogue of the State Library of Victoria (accessed
23 May 2020) notes that the two botany volumes reporting on Dumont d'Urville's voyage,
1837-40, are among those lacking in their set.
3
The voyage has not been precisely identified. However, Bride is recorded as a passenger
returning to Melbourne from Launceston, Tas, on 31 October 1890 (Argus, 1 November 1890, p. 8), having attended a meeting of the Council of the University
of Melbourne on 13 October (Argus, 14 October 1890, p. 4).
4
Bride had been an active member of the Victorian Branch of the Royal Geographical
Society of Australasia and continued as a member of its Council (see, for example,
M to T. Bride, 11 November 1892).
Regardfully your
Ferd. von Mueller
