The item is dated to September 1890 as the latest that it could have been written to have been read at the first meeting of the Society's 1890-91 session on 6 November, the same date as when William Brown's certificate was read (see M to the Linnean Society of London, 23 September 1890); however it may have arrived in London at any time during the summer recess.
