Eben habe ich, geehrter Herr Professor, Ihnen wieder 367 Arten getrockn. Pfl. gesandt. Manches werden Sie dort schon haben, aber es mögen Ihnen Ex. von neuen Standorten willkommen sein, u. dasjenige, welches Sie dort nicht gebrauchen können, sollte doch leicht für Vertausch zu verwerthen sein.

Dürfte ich Sie bitten, mir ein Exemplar der schönen Neue Guineas zuzusenden, von welchem Dr Warburg als durch ihn gesammelt spricht? Mich interessirt ja besonders diese Pflanzen-Familie und solche andere als besonders typisch für Australien sind. Nach Prof Eichler's Zusage konnte ich erwarten, dass solche Pfl aus Neu-Guinea an mich zur Bearbeitung übergehen würden. Da ich eben von Proteaceen spreche, möchte es mir wohl erlaubt sein, zu bemerken, dass ich schon vor vielen Jahren das Perianth der Prot. als corollar erklärte, analog wie bei manchen -Arten, bei u. theilweise , obwohl der Australier für diese manche andere seiner Original Beobachtungen nicht der geringsten Anerkennung gewürdigt wurde.

So ist z. B. auch in den "Pflanzen-Familien" bei den Restiaceen der 37 Seiten im 8ten Band der Fragmenta gar nicht gedacht als Litteratur-Nachweis, was freilich auch Kunths enum widerfährt. Ich würde der Sache gar nicht Erwähnung thun, wenn mein Wirken nicht so oft übersehen und zurückgesetzt würde, u wenn ich als verantwortlicher Staats-Beamter die Rechte meiner Anstalt nicht zu vertreten hätte.

Die eben gesandten Pfl. werden Ihnen kostenfrei durch die hiesige Versendungs Firma Mess. Tate & Co. zugehen.

Dürfte ich Sie bitten, das den Pflanzen beigefügte Werk über die Myoporinen Hr. Dr. Landau zustellen zu lassen? Ich versprach diese Gabe als Hochzeits Geschenk für seine Gemahlin, aber der Band war zu schwer um ihn durch die Post zu senden. Der Text ist noch nicht erschienen. Werden Sie auch in Zukunft noch die separat halten? Wie doch H. & B. in die Enge getrieben wurden (seit meiner Remonstration ehe diese die Genera begonnen) dadurch, dass sogar die Loranthaceen mit hoher Corollar Entwicklung unter die kamen!

Wird irgend Jemand, selbst unter meinen Landsleuten daheim ein anerkennendes öffentliches Wort für meine Anordnung der Familie in 2tm Census haben?

Ich wunder mich über die so oft oberflächliche Kritik mancher bot. Werke daheim.

May I ask you to send me a specimen of the beautiful of New Guinea, of which Dr Warburg speaks as collected by him? This plant family particularly interests me and such others as are especially typical for Australia. According to Prof Eichler's promise, I could expect that such plants from New Guinea would be passed over to me for working up. Since I am just speaking of e, it would perhaps be permitted for me to remark that already many years ago I demonstrated the perianth of Prot. as corollaceous, analogous to that in many species, in and partly ,

See also M to W. Thiselton Dyer, 25 October 1892. From at least his description of Adenathos forrestii (B82.10.04, p. 230), M uses the term 'corolla' or 'petals' when describing the flowers of new species of e, but no place where he argues the case for this interpretation has been found.

although the Australian was not granted the slightest recognition for this and many other of his original observations.

are not at all mentioned in the bibliography, which of course also happened to Kunth's enum.

I should not make mention of the matter at all if my work was not so often overlooked and neglected, and if I had not to represent the rights of my institution as a responsible state official.

Wilhelm von Landau, who travelled the world during the 1880s, and whose nomination for election to the Linnean Society of London was co-ordinated by M in 1881, while Landau was in Australia (see M to the Linnean Society of London, July 1881 (in this edition as 81-07-00)).

I promised this gift as a wedding present for his wife, but the volume was too heavy to send through the post. The text has not yet appeared.

The intended volume of text to accompany the illustrations was never written.

Will you also in future still keep the separate? As indeed H. & B. were pressed hard (since my remonstration before they began the genera)
