This afternoon I received your last letter, dear Mr Macdonald, and I beg to say, that
I in no way urged Mr Wolf
to accompany Mr Lindt, and the latter going alone lessens the expense. What the latter
however wished, was some
financial aid
, so that he might
extend
his expedition
further
, than otherwise would be the case.
I thought, he might have had
something
, if even only £50 - -; for, the mere purchase of photograms to a small extent and
our bearing the expense of an illustrated lecture of his, would
not help him in his travels
. However as the whole plan originated with Mr Lindt alone, all I can say now is this,
to inform him at once clearly
, that he cannot reckon on any travelling expenses from the Council, for he seems
after his last interview with you to be under a different impression.
