Collecting dates for the MEL record numbers in this fragment range from 1886 for number 689 to 1890 for 895 and 1034. There are two Holtze record numbers 689, both 1886, one of which matches the name given here. Number 795 is recorded as undated and is referred to a species in a different family (AVH, accessed 2 June 2022).
In M to M. Holtze, 16 May 1890, M wrote in his report on number 802, 'I shall examine the new Verbenacea in detail'. M to M. Holtze, 26 June 1890, reports that 'I have already written that I called the rock-dwelling Verbenacea Clerodendron holtzei'. The present fragment was evidently written after 16 May and the latest date it could have been written is early June 1890; it is dated accordingly.

Grosse (bisher unbekannte) Form. Könnten von dieser merkwürdigen Pflanze, falls solche Ihnen nahe ist, gut gereifte Samen für botanische Gärten mir gelegentlich zukommen?
[Large (until now unknown) form. Could I, if the occasion presents itself, receive well ripened seeds for botanic Gardens of this peculiar plant, if it grows near you?]

Es wäre gut, nach u nach von allen Nummern, welche ich noch nicht benannt habe, mehr Exemplare zu senden, da in den meisten Fällen das Material für Bestimmung wohl nicht zureichte. So wird auch nichts vergessen.
[It would be good to send gradually more specimens of all the numbers that I have not yet named, as in most cases the material was probably inadequate for determination. That way nothing will be forgotten.]
