It is likely that, in his letter received by Bailley on 10 April (see register entry M to F. Bailey, April 1890, in this edition as 90-04-00b), M had requested additional specimens. He had complained that Bailey sent insufficient material in M to W. Thiselton-Dyer, 27 March 1890, where he also said that 'his Alsophila Capensis is A Rebeccae!'.

listed in IPNI is a recombination made in 1970, based on Baker's Cyathea muelleri from New Guinea of 1890. Bailey evidently distinguised specimens of Alsophila he regarded as a new species, but this was not mentioned in Bailey (1889).
