MS annotation by Regel: 'Was als von Fröbel in Handel gegeben ist[,] ist jedenfalls nicht . Was als Rosa [...] von Petersburg als vorzügliche Rose zu Wildlingen in Samen verbreitet wurde von Niemann verbreitet wurde, ist nach einem Zweig den ich vom Verbreiter erhielt Rosa cinnamomea. Die Fröbelsche ist wahrscheinlich Rosa canina caucasica ' [What was given in commerce as by Fröbel is certainly not . — What was distributed as Rosa [...] by St Petersburg as seed as a superior rose for stock through Niemann is, according to a branch I received from the distributor, Rosa cinnamomea. — Fröbel's is probably Rosa canina caucasica].

Froebel bei Zürich als Stock für hochstammige Rosen so sehr gerühmt wird. Ich hätte gern den genauen Namen aus Ihrem speciellen Wissensschatz, so dass ich diese Art in die 8te Auflage der select plants mit aufnehmen kann — Vielleicht haben Sie & Hr Dr med. Regel einige andere Notizen für diese bald zu erscheinende neue Ausgabe

Would you be so kind, noble friend, to tell me what is the correct name of the Central-Asian Rosa which, as R. laxa, is praised so much as stock for standard roses by Mr O. Froebel from near Zürich. I would like to have the correct name from your wealth of specialized knowledge, so that I can include this species in the 8th edition of the 'Select plants'.
