Am heutigen Tage, verehrter Freund, ist die Kiste mit Neu-Guinea Pflanzen angekommen, u wie es scheint ist der Inhalt wohlerhalten. Empfangen Sie dafür meinen besten Dank, u sagen Sie auch Herrn Dr Hollrung, dass ich ihm für seine Liberalität sehr verpflichtet fühle. Seine gege[n]wärtige Adresse kenne ich nicht, sonst würde ich ihm in einem directen Brief gedankt haben.

Da für 1890 u 1891 keine Austellungs Arbeiten vorliegen, und die Haupt Verpflichtungen für die "Austral Assoc." erfüllt sind, athme ich etwas freier auf, und werde nun auch die noch bei mir als unbearbeitet liegenden Papua-Pflanzen bearbeiten können.

So wie es die Zeit erlaubt, soll auch noch eine andere Sammlung wieder für Sie hergestellt werden.

Today, esteemed friend, the box with New Guinea plants has arrived and, as it seems, the contents are well-preserved. Accept my best thanks for this and also tell Dr Hollrung that I feel very obligated to him for his liberality.

MEL has at least 175 sheets collected by Hollrung in what was then German New Guinea; 45 are undated, the rest are from 1886 and 1887 (AVH, accessed 27 June 2022). M mentioned a Hollrung specimen in B90.05.01, p. 54.

I do not know his present address, otherwise I would have thanked him in a direct letter.

Because there will be no exhibition work for 1890 and 1891 and the main obligations for the Austral. Assoc. are fulfilled,

M was President of the second Congress of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science, held in Melbourne in January 1890.

I am breathing somewhat more freely and will now also be able to work up the Papuan plants yet remaining with me unworked.

So as time permits, yet another collection will also be made again for you.
