Melbourne,
22 Febr. 1890.
T. R. Wilson Esqr,
Undersecretary.
Sir.
I have the honor to report, that by some inadvertence during a very busy time I missed,
to apply for authority, to spend out of the vote for "publication of works" £110.-
.- additionally to the £250.- .-, authorized by Order in Council (Correspondence 6934)
for the printing of the "Second Census of Australian plants" to completion. May I
now solicit, that the honorable the Chief Secretary will be pleased, to make the additional
permission, the funds being available for the purpose, and the cost of printing having
exceeded the original estimate on account of the greater extension of the work, the
number of pages being now 244.

The Chief Secretary, A. Deakin, approved M's request on 4 March 1890, and M returned
the file 'with best thanks' on 7 March. On 10 March, Wilson forwarded it to the Commissioners of Audit for their information, who replied on 18 March saying that 'as the excess expenditure is over £100 an Order in Council is necessary'.
In early April, the Chief Secretary duly made such a request, enabling the matter
to be finalized.
I have the honor to be, Sir,
your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller,
Gov. Botanist.
