Melbourne
6 Dec. 1889.
T. R. Wilson Esqr
Under Secretary
Sir.
The year drawing to a close, I have the honor to solicit, that my services may be continued also in 1890, as I feel quite capable to perform the duties still, which devolved hitherto on me in this Department, and as I am most anxious to carry on the work scientifically and practically, feeing still the deepest interest in it.

M to T. Wilson, 29 May 1889 (in this edition as 89-05-29a) is the previous request, and his term had been extended to 31 December 1889. On 9 December 1889, Wilson minuted: 'I beg to point out to the Government Botanist that by the Amending Public Service Act he is permitted to continue his services till the 30th June next, by which date the question of further extension must be dealt with by the Governor in Council'. M returned the file 'with best thanks for the information afforded' on 16 December.
I have the honor to be,
Sir, your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller,
Gov Botanist
