MS found with an undated specimen of Trachymene anisocarpa. Holding's partially dated specimens at MEL range from March 1889 to 1895 (year only). 'Compliments of the season' indicates that this letter was probably written in a December, and the letter is dated to December 1889 as the earliest it is likely to have been written, when Holding would have been aged 18 (Maroske and Vaughan (2014)).
Baron Fred von Mueller,
This plant grows where the Mallee has been well burnt off & nothing else is growing
Wishing you the Compliments of the season.
Your truly
Lucy E. Holding
