The samples of sprigs and wood, just submitted to me, dear Mr Watson,
are from
. For bridge-decking and indeed for many other purposes, it can be admitted as one
of the best of our native timbers, but great care should be exercise,
that the supply always corresponds to this specific sample and that not the timber
of other kinds of trees be mixed in.

Letter marked: 'Mr Macdonald The Engineer in Chief has decided that this timber may
be used for the same class of work as E. Globulus (bluegum) CEN [i.e. C. E. Norman]
2/12/89', and 'To Inspector Aydon. Please note the Govt. Botanists remarks and take
all necessary precautions that inferior timber is not mixed with the E. Goniocalyx
J.McD 4/12/89'. The latter note was acknowledged by Frederick Aydon on the same day,
and the file was returned to Norman by McDonald on 6 December.
