To Baron Von Mueller Esqre
P.H. M.D. F.R.S.
Dear Sir
The plant of which you wished seed I now enclose leaves & one seed pod, the frost
cut it off, and very little seed was to be found, my old pupil says It resembles white
creamy flowers tinged with orange when half blown but when in bud a vivid red giving
the plant a singular appearance, grows to 20 feet in height produces flowers all the
way up & grows in sheltered spots — An old lady who was in Cuba for many years — says
she is under the impression she once saw one very like it there — The other pods are
from the Scrub, season too late to judge the kinds of flowers.
Can get seed pod little later on of speckled passion vine leaf, pod bright red with
four white stripes, or rather spots forming a stripe.
The shrub with the thorns has a very pretty star like flower sweetly scented.
Trusting I may be enabled to get sub-marine plants at a future time
With Compliments
Believe me Sir
Yours very truly
Amy S. Butler
