By this mail, dear Mr Carruthers, I send you a set of the ferns collected by Sir Will
Macgregor in the ascent of the Owen Stanley's ranges.
The specimens are not in a good state; but all such material had to be carried in
empty provision-bags from the steep declivities through the wet jungles. I prepared
here the specimens in the best way I could.

Papua New Guinea.
Simultaneously I have forwarded a set of these ferns to Kew, informing Mr Dyer, that
you received also a lot, so that you can easily make arrangements there about naming.
The collection is more of geographic than of phytographic value.
