Government Secretarys Office
Port Moresby, British New Guinea
8th July 1889
Sir
I have the honor to acknowledge by direction of the Administrator, your Letter of the 12th April.

M to W. MacGregor, 12 April 1889 (in this edition as 89-04-12a).
In reply His Honor says that any general aid we can give the Rev Mr Lawes or Rev Mr Chalmers to reach the Owen Stanley Range will be most readily afforded — but no local public funds could be devoted to the service again as the expedition just completed by His Honor answered all practical purposes for this Government.
Sir William MacGregor, however, desires to assure you that he believes that the above named gentlemen are the most competent that can be selected for such a journey, should the Society deem such expedition necessary after it has received a copy of his report
I have the honor to be
Sir
Your obedient Servant
Government Secretary
