T. R. Wilson Esqr
Under-Secretary.
Sir
As the finance-year is again drawing to a close, I have the honor to solicit that
I may remain in my official position, though a Sexagenarian. The establishment, which
I originated and administrate, has not suffered any impairments in 1888-1889, and
indeed has been conducted almost more vigorously than ever during the last finance-year;
and indeed I feel myself fully capable, to continue my departmental services also
in the coming year. I trust therefore, that the Government and the Public Service
Board will kindly allow my services as heretofore to proceed.

On 3 June 1889, the Chief Secretary, A. Deakin, approved M's request 'to 31 Dec. next'.
I have the honor to be,
Sir, your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller,
Gov. Botanist.
