MS annotation: 'Sample A submitted by Mr Gourlay on behalf of A O'Keefe as Blue Gum from near Koorooman Black spur JRP 9/4/89'. A specimen collected in April 1889 from 'about Koorooman, Toora Track' is in the Melbourne Herbarium (MEL 1609112), under Eucalyptus cypellocarpa ; M's herbarium label, naming the specimen as E. goniocalyx , attributes the collection to Watson.
This tree passes in Victoria generally as "Spotted Gumtree". Its timber is similar to that of the true Blue Gum-tree, and is as durable, particularly when the wood is obtained from slopes of hills and not from wet vallies.
Regardfully your
Ferd. von Mueller.
