May I advise, dear Dr Bride, that this important publication be purchased for the public Library.

The cover on the file reveals that the work recommended by M was Franchet (1889-90). The Library sub-committee approved the purchase on 30 July 1889. By 3 August the book had been ordered and M had been 'informed thereof'. The work does not, however, appear in the Library’s present-day catalogue.
