I have the honor to submit in duplo herewith an estimate of the expenditure for such public works, buildings and repairs, as I deem requisite during the finance-year of 1889-1890 in the Government Botanists Department.

On 17 April 1889, the Under Secretary, T. Wilson, noted: 'For submission to the Minister'. The Chief Secretary, A. Deakin, added the same day: 'Print'. The amount requested was included in the Estimates for 1889-90, under 'Sundry works, Melbourne' (Estimates of the revenue and expenditure for the year ending 30th June 1890, Parliamentary paper 1889. B 5, p. 76).The item at £180 was included as 'Fittings and repairs at the Botanic Museum' in the list of works approved when the vote for the Commissioner of Public Works was passed on the Legislative Assembly on 15 October 1889 (Victoria Votes and proceedings of the Legislative Assembly, session 1889, vol. 1, p. 224). The work was evidently not carried out as the same amount for the same project was submitted for the Estimates in the following year; see M to T. Wilson, 25 March 1890, and notes thereto.
I have the honor to be,
Sir, your obed. servant,
