See M to T. Hocken, 1 February 1889.
As you justly perceived, I desire them in the crude state, and it would be probably better not to take such material from any one, who makes a business in drying Algae for sale. Any one living on the coast (i.e on a locality where Algs are copiously washed up) might gather fresh of each sort a small quantity and dry it crisply on shelves. The time, required for getting such material, would be inconsiderable and so the labor. Thus a cornbag full of rough material, gradually got together, should not cost much. If the charge was high, the value would be out of proportion. As a Linnéan you may like the little book on Vict. plants,

The rough material when, soaked up for observing, answers my particular purpose better, than the specimens dried on paper.
