It was very kind of you, dear Doctor, to exert yourself at once so much about Algae
for me.
As you justly perceived, I desire them in the
crude
state, and it would be probably better
not
to take such material from any one, who makes a business in drying Algae for sale.
Any one living on the coast (i.e on a locality where Algs are copiously washed up)
might gather fresh of each sort a small quantity and dry it crisply on shelves. The
time, required for getting such material, would be inconsiderable and so the labor.
Thus a cornbag full of rough material, gradually got together, should not cost much.
If the charge was high, the value would be out of proportion. As a Linnéan you may
like the little book on Vict. plants,
sent this day.

The rough material when, soaked up for observing, answers my
particular
purpose better, than the specimens dried on paper.
