Baron Sir F. von Mueller K.C.M.G, M. & Ph. D., FRS., &c.
Government Botanist
Sir,
For some time now, I have felt greatly indisposed, but, thinking it but a passing
illness I took no notice of it. I now feel really very ill and so broken down that
I am obliged to request you to kindly recommend to the Hon. the Chief Secretary to
relieve me of my duties for a week in order that I may recover my health in some cool
part of the country, such leave to be deducted from my annual leave. In support of
my statement I beg to enclose a certificate by a legally qualified medical practitioner.
1
The enclosed medical certificate by J. O. Eccles M.D., of 105 Collins Street East,
Melbourne, and dated 5 February 1889, reads: 'This is to certify that Mr Renner is suffering from passive congestion
of the liver, and it is my opinion that he requires a change of air'.
I very obediently request to grant me leave
as soon as possible
on account of the bad state of my health
2
Renner's request was granted; see M to A. Deakin, 5 February 1889, and notes thereto.
I have the honor to be
Sir
your
most obedient servant
G Renner
