Sehr hochgeschätzter Herr Baron!
An Ew. Hochwohlgeboren habe ich die Ehre, im Auftrage des Herrn Professors Dr Reinke, welcher durch Ueberbürdung mit Arbeiten an der Führung der Correspondenz zur Zeit behindert ist, mit der ergebenen Bitte mich zu wenden, das hiesige Algenherbarium mit den Exsiccaten einiger Australischen Algen freundlichst bereichern zu wollen.
Herr Professor Reinke, in dem Bestreben, das Herbarium der Meeres Algen hier in Kiel, als dem vor allen anderen deutschen Universitäten am naturgemäss gegebensten Punkte, zu möglichster Vollkommenheit zu bringen, wünscht sehr die Australischen Algen vollständiger, als bisher, vertreten zu sehen und glaubt zur Erreichung dieses Zweckes sich an keine bessere und sicherere Quelle wenden zu können, als an Ew. Hochwohlgeboren, dessen Interesse für die vaterländischen Institute ja so rühmlichst bekannt ist.
Unterzeichneter, welcher seit einigen Jahren unter freundlichen Anweisung des Herrn Professors das Studium der Meeres-Algen betreibt und zur Zeit mit der Ordnung des hiesigen Herbars sich beschäftigt, hat in nebenstehender Liste, welche wesentlich nach Harvey's Phyc. aust. aufgestellt ist, die besonders erwünschten Desiderate zusammengestellt.
Ew. Hochwohlgeboren würden Sich die Wissenschaft und speciell das hiesige Institut zu grossem Danke verpflichten, wenn Sie die betr. Liste einer gefälligen Durchsicht unterziehen und, soweit möglich, aus dem Schatze Ihrer Doubletten hieher mitzutheilen die Güte haben wollten.
Selbstverständlich würde dem hiesigen Institute es zur besonderen Freude gereichen, wenn dasselbe mit Doubletten, speciell der Ostsee Algen dienen könnte.
Indem ich mich des angenehmen Auftrages entledige, von Seiten des Herrn Professors Dr. Reinke die angelegentlichsten Empfehlungen zu übermitteln, habe ich die Ehre zu sein, hochgehrter Herr Baron,

Very highly valued Baron!
I have the honour on behalf of Professor Reinke, who at present is prevented by excessive work from conducting correspondence, to apply to your Honour with the humble request to most kindly enrich the local algal herbarium with exsiccatae of some Australian algae.
Professor Reinke in the endeavour to bring the herbarium of marine algae here in Kiel as the most naturally bestowed spot above all other German universities to the most possible completeness, very much desires to see the Australian algae more completely represented than previously and thinks in the achievement of this object to be able to apply to no better and certain a source than your Honour, whose interest for the national institutes is indeed so highly celebrated.
The undersigned, who for some years under the friendly instruction of the Professor has been pursuing the study of marine algae and at present is occupied with the arrangement of the local herbarium, has put together the particularly desired desiderata in the accompanying list that is drawn up essentially from Harvey's Phycologia australica.

Your Honour would place science and especially the local institute under the obligation of great thanks, if you subject the list to a kindly examination and, as far as possible, have the goodness to transmit here from the store of your duplicates.
Of course it would give the local institute particular pleasure, if it could help with duplicates, especially of Baltic algae.
