Weihnachts Abend Melbourne

Heute ist eine reiche ornithologische Sammlung aus Ost-Australien für Sie gepackt, edler Freund, und wird solche gleich nach den Festtagen an Sie abgehen. Manches Neue sollten darunter für Ihre Anstalt sein. Was Sie bereits reichlich haben, möchte ich Sie bitten an das grossherzogl Museum in Oldenburg zu senden, da S. Kgl. Hoheit mich im vorigen Jahr besonders auszeichnete, u ich mich dankbar bezeigen möchte.

Ich schreibe eben die Präsidenten Rede für die therapeutische Section des Intercolonialen Medical Congress nachdem ich die 7te Ausgabe des Werkes über Nutz Pfl. u die Dichotomische Flora von Vict jüngst vollendet, den Anfangs Jan. gehalten wird, u zu welchem sich etwa 450 Ärzte eingeschrieben haben! Anfangs Februar, wenn die Extra-Arbeiten für die Welt Austellung vorüber sein werden, liefere ich die Präsidenten-Rede in der geogr. Gesellschaft. Ich fungire auch als Präsident in unserer grossen Liedertafel, die 4 x im Jahr classische Musik vor mehrern Tausend Höhrern liefert, abgesehen von den “Herren Abenden”. Gegen Ende nächstes Jahrs habe ich als Präsident für 1889 die wahrscheinlich tausandfach besuchte Meeting of the Austr. Association zu leiten, der Versamml deutscher Naturforscher u Ärzte entsprechend u der British Assoc. So sehen Sie, dass ich neben den täglichen schweren Amts-Arbeite sehr beschäftigt bin.

Ihnen u den Ihren meinen besten Glückwunsch zum Neujahr zu rufen.

Die Pariser Ausstell. wird auch manche Extra Pflichten mir auferlegen.

A packing list in the Stuttgart archives corresponding to this consignment is headed 'Richmond & Clarence Rivers N. S. Wales'. One bird is also listed as from Kings Island, while a box of Phasmids from Queensland and a box containing a stuffed Murray lobster were also included. There is a note, not in M's hand: 'The skins are all good, and have only recently been shot'. M has written: 'Wird in einer Kiste nächste Woche an Watson & Scull abgehen. 29/12/88 Mit besten Neujahrs Gruss | Ferd von Mueller' [It will go in a crate next week to Watson & Scull. 20/12/88 With best New Year's greeting | Ferd. von Mueller]. Towards the end of next year as president for 1889 I have to lead the perhaps thousandfold-attended meeting of the Australasian Association,
