Hoffentlich hast Du Dich ganz erholt.
Freundshaftlich
stets der Deine
Ferd. von Mueller

Yesterday evening, my dear Krichauff, I received your kind letter.

Please accept my best thanks for your felicitation on the brilliant event in my scientific life!

M had been awarded by the Royal Society of London one of its two Royal Medals for 1888, The award was first announced in the Australian press by the Argus, 19 November 1888, p. 7.
I am particularly proud that this so rare honour was awarded first to a German in Australia. I must try to find you in person during your short stay here.
I have barely recovered from my accident,
3
M had fallen off a tram on 31 July and was seriously injured (Argus, 1 August 1888, p. 7).
so I have only been to the Centennial Exhibition twice.
I hoped that you and yours would pay us a longer visit during the exhibition period. I hope you have recovered completely.

Krichauff had arrived in Melbourne on 23 November. He and other members of the SA parliament were listed as 'boudoir car passengers' for Melbourne on the overnight train on 22 November, returning on the 26 November (South Australian register, 23 November 1888, p. 5 and South Australian register, 27 November 1888, p. 6). No reference to Krichauff's being ill at this time has been found.
Amicably
always yours
Ferd. von Mueller
