MS found with a specimen of
Darwinia taxifolia

Search for Darwinia taxifolia in

(MEL 220083) from Clyde, NSW. MS is annotated by M: 'Darwinia virgata The petals are persistent, may therefore be calyx lobes. Bractiolae cymbiaem sed omnino obtusae!' [Bractioles hardened but all of them obtuse!]. M has also annotated the label: 'Darwinia virgata FvM var. with undeveloped setular calyx lobes'.

Geehrtester Herr Baron.
Ihre beiden Briefe mit Einlagen habe ich erhalten, u. sage Ihnen herzlichsten Dank dafür. Da ich durch einen Fall ein schlimmes Bein bekam konnte ich leider kürzlich nicht ausgehen, auch ist durch die Dürre u. Buschfeuer auch beinahe Alles abgebrannt, was die diesige Jahreszeit äusserst ungünstig für das Sammeln macht.
Mit den drei Ex. die ich jetzt sende, lege ich auch zwei verschiedene Arten von
Darwinia taxifolia

bei, damit Sie wenn Sie einmal Zeit haben dieselben genauerer Vergleichung unterwerfen können. Doch so ziemlich in derselben Lokalität u. auf derselben geol. Formation vorkommend sind die Pflanzen im Wuchs sehr verschieden. Während die grosse rothblumige Art immer beinahe ganz flach am Boden liegt, ist die andre Art immer ganz aufrecht. Frucht konnte ich jetzt noch nicht finden.

with the enclosures and express my sincerest thanks for them. As I got a bad leg through a fall, I was unfortunately not able to go out lately. Besides, because of the drought and the bushfires nearly everything is burnt, which makes the present season very unfavourable for collecting.
With the three specimens I am sending now I also enclose two different kinds of
Darwinia taxifolia

so that, when you have some time, you can subject them to a more detailed comparison. Although they occur in much the same locality and on the same geological formation, the plants are very different in their habit . While the large red-flowering kind always lies almost flat on the ground, the other one is completely erect. I could not yet find any fruit.
