MS is an annotation on a file in response to a letter to the Premier's Office from T. Bride, Librarian, Public Library, 16 October 1888, about the distribution of the final Decades of M's Iconography of Australian species of Acacia, pointing out that Professors Asa Gray and Jules Planchon were dead. W. Sewell, Acting Secretary to the Premier, referred this to M on 5 November 1888 seeking clarification 'whether the presentations made to Professors Gray and Planchon were regarded as made to the gentlemen personally , or to the Institutions which they represent. If the latter will Sir Ferdinand von Mueller be good enough to state what Institution Professor Gray represented?'
Professors Asa Gray and Planchon both died this year. The exchange presentations to these illustrious men were made in their University-positions. I would now respectfully suggest, that the continuation be simply adressed to "the Harvard-University, Cambridge, Massachusetts, North-America", and to the "University of Montpellier, France."
Ferd. von Mueller.
