Dies ist ein wahrer Jubeltag für mich, edler Freund, durch die Ankunft der schönen Bearbeitung gewisser Orthopteran-Gruppen durch Ihre u Hr. Prof Hofmann’s Vermittlung von dem ausgezeichneten Hr Brunner von Wattenwyl. Sagen Sie diesem augsgezeichneten Gelehrten meinen besten Dank für dieser schätzbaren Beiträge zur Insekten Fauna Australiens, welche Arbeit ja für alle Zeiten hohe Werth haben wird. Ich will mich bemühen weitere Materialien aus diesen Insekten Gruppen zu erlangen. Bin ganz stolz darauf, auch mit dieser Thier-Gruppe meinen Namen identificirt zu sehen.
Endlich ist es gelungen einige wenige Leipoa Exemplare zu erlangen. Die armen unschuldigen Thiere werden wohl bald das Geschick der Alca impennis theilen. Man gönnt ihnen nicht den letzten Zufluchtsort in den entlegensten Wüsten, einfach um den Vogel zu verspeisen, trotz der Eier, die doch zum Theil zur Nahrung genommen werden könnten. Ich sende zwei. Sollten diese beide ♂ oder ♀ sein, so würde ich bitten eins an das Museum in Braunschweig an unsern Freund Prof. Blasius abzugeben. Etwas mehr Insekten-Material folgt auch diesmal wieder mit.

This is a real day of jubilation for me, noble Friend, through the arrival of the beautiful revision of certain orthopteran groups through your and Professor Hofmann's agency by the excellent Mr Brunner von Wattenwyl. Give my best thanks to this excellent savant for this valuable contribution to the insect fauna of Australia, which work will have high value indeed for all time. I intend to endeavour to obtain further material of these insect groups. I am quite proud to see my name also identified with this group of animals.

Brunner von Wattenwyl (1888) had named Eremus muelleri in M's honour (p. 378), the collecting location being given as 'Queensland'.
At last I have succeeded in obtaining some few Leipoa specimens.

Mound-building bird, commonly called 'Mallee fowl'.
The poor innocent creatures will probably soon share the fate of Alca impennis.

The Great Auk, rendered extinct earlier in the nineteenth century through depredations by collectors.
They are not granted the last sanctuary in the most remote desert, simply to consume the birds, in spite of the eggs that surely could be taken in part for food. I send two. Should these both be ♂or ♀ I would ask you to give one to the museum in Braunschweig to our friend Professor Blasius. As well some more insect material also follows again this time.
