M's letter appears immediately following a report by the Association's delegates to the first congress of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science, held in Sydney in September 1888. In their report, the delegates noted, among other things, that M had been designated as President of the second congress, which was to be held in Melbourne.
and I beg to add that for the formation of the local Council arrangements will preliminarily be made next week, when the Melbourne delegates who went to Sydney will come together for the first time, and when your letter will be placed at once before them.
Regardfully yours,
Ferd. von Mueller.
