Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter addressed to the President of the Trustees
suggesting that Mr C Walter should be employed by the Trustees during the Centennial
International Exhibition
to collect specimens for the proposed Botanic Museum,
and to inform you that the subject will be brought before the Trustees at their next
meeting.

The report of the Trustees of the Public Library, Museums, and National Gallery of
Victoria, for 1888, referred to this proposal:
Whenever additional space can be provided it is proposed to give special prominence
to the specimens of economic botany, and to rearrange the collections so that information
concerning the vegetable products of Australia and their uses may be more easily obtained than is now possible. The Trustees have received valuable suggestions from Baron von Mueller on the details
of this change, which will be duly considered when they are able to rearrange the technological collections (Victoria Parliamentary Paper No. 59, 1889, p. 4).
