T.R. Wilson Esqr
Undersecretary.
Sir
As the service-year under the Government is again drawing to a close, I have the honor to report, that I feel myself quite capable to continue the performance of the duties of Governments Botanist in all its branches, and would therefore solicit the hon. the Chief Secretary and through him the Government, to allow me to continue my position, giving myself the assurance of my utmost desire, to carry out the various obligations in this branch of the service with zeal and close application.

On 13 June 1888, H. Moors, for the Under Secretary, sent to M the minute: 'The Government Botanist's name is included in the list of officers who have attained the age of sixty years and whose services it is recommended should be further retained'. M replied the next day 'with best thanks'.
I have the honor to be,
Sir, your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller,
Gov. Botanist.
