Letter not found. MS is a minute generated by a memorandum of Gilbert Brown's dated 12 May 1888, on Education Department stationery: 'Baron von Mueller — Select Plants for Industrial Culture & naturalisation — Seventh Edition now in type. The Baron says we can get copies supplied for the cost of the paper — McCallum, Please see me about this'. McCallum replied on 14 May: 'There are about 200 copies of the 1st edition still in stock — copy attached'. Brown added the present minute to the file the next day, and a letter was sent to M on 17 May.
[Inform Baron Von Mueller that the schools have been supplied with an earlier edition of the work, and that we have still some 200 in stock. It is not therefore thought necessary to incur the expense of providing another copy for each school.]

M had suggested the scheme for distributing copies of B88.12.01 to schools in M to T. Wilson, 14 May 1888 (in this edition as 88-05-14a). The Education Department had heard of the scheme before that: Wilson was told on 6 June that it 'was lately considered by Professor Pearson at the instance of Baron von Mueller … [ and it] was not deemed necessary to incur the expense of providing another copy for each school'.
