My dear Baron von Mueller,
I was indeed pleased to receive this morning your valued letter
written as you alone know how to write. I look forward with interest to your Presidential
address. It is unfortunate that you should be unduly overwhelmed with work but I suppose
such is the invariable penalty attaching under our modern civilization to pre-eminence
in any line of life; and especially so in the case of an almost unique specialist
scientist like yourself.

To myself as you know a life of activity rather than one permitting profound research
has been allotted; and should I have opportunities for further geographical exploitation
I trust to be able to make better and less economical arrangements, and have some
collector with me who may bring grist to your mill.
By the by I sent copy of pamphlet
to your correspondent Herr Wichmann Co-Editor Petermann's Mittheilungen Gotha
who wrote me a nice letter some few months ago; and spoke of hearing of my work through
your good self
