In reply to your memorandum at the 20 Jan.
I have the honor to solicit, that the sum of
eighty pounds
Sterling may be rendered available for the Gov. Botanists Department in aid of the
additional work, desirable to be carried out in his Establishment for the display
of veget. resources of the Colony.

i.e. at the Centennial International Exhibition, Melbourne, 1888-9. In a file note
dated 30 January 1888, H. Moors, writing for the Under Secretary, asked M 'to be good
enough to sign and return to this Office the accompanying application for a Special
Advance of £80'. M replied in a further file note the next day: 'Application form
signed as directed, and returned with best thanks'. Moors then forwarded the form
to the Treasurer with an explanatory cover note, adding: 'I beg to state that provision
to make this expenditure will be made on the Estimates for this Department for the
ensuing financial year'.
