Letter dated to 16 January 1888 as the first Monday after a meeting of the Council
of the Victorian Branch of the Royal Geographical Society of Australasia on 10 January
at which a letter from Ernest Favenc for financial help for a proposed journey of
exploration in WA was considered, and prior to the departure of William Potter and
John Shillinglaw for Sydney to represent the Victorian Branch of the Society at the
celebrations on 26 January of the centenary of the British settlement of Australia.
When I had the pleasure of meeting you and your Ladies on Saturday, dear Mr Macdonald,
I forgot to ask, whether you have made any particular arrangements for the celebration
meeting of the Council. Kindly let me know, what you wish me to do
Mr Potter kindly called last evening, so I explained to him
our
views, regarding Favenc,
to whom I am now sending a telegram, announcing the arrival of our delegates.
