Incidentally I have learnt, dear Mr Moors, that an application has been made on behalf
of several of the Gov. Departments by the Executive Commissioners of the Exhibition
for special votes, with a view of providing exhibits. As in my own response to the
request in enumerating what I would send, I made provision for show-cases and various
other requisites in connection with my exhibits, and as furthermore my department
is the one least endowed in the service, I trust that I may also enjoy some special
support on this occasion; indeed the resources of my establishment are so severely
taxed, that these extra-calls on it cannot be carried out without special additional
support, unless other branches of my Department are meanwhile severely suffering.

On 20 January Moors, writing for the Under Secretary, Thomas Wilson, minuted: 'Returned
to the Government Botanist who is requested to be good enough to state the amount,
which he estimates will be required for preparing exhibits for the Melbourne Centennial
International Exhibition'. For M's reply, see M to T. Wilson, 24 January 1888.
Regardfully your
Ferd. von Mueller.
