The text given here is from 'Representation of Western Australia' in a report of the meeting of the Commission of the Melbourne Centennial International Exhibition held on 3 January 1888, Age, 4 January 1888, p. 5. M's letter is dated to January 1888 as the last date it could have been written. It could however have been written in December 1887, before Forrest and his wife left Melbourne on the Massilia, which cleared out of Melbourne on 29 December (Leader, 31 December 1887, p. 31).
