The honorable Alfr. Deakin, M.L.A,
Chief Secretary.
Sir.
I have the honor to submit herewith a memorandum from the treasury, according to which
a sum of £30.3.8d is available yet for the Gov. Botanists Department at the Agent
General's Office;
and I would respectfully enquire, whether this amount could be utilized for the purchase
of papier-mache models of fruits and other objects, illustrative of utilitarian plants
and purchasable in Berlin.

These articles could then yet timely be obtained for the Exhibition,
and be subsequently located in the botanic section of the technologic Museum.

On 14 November 1887, T. Wilson, Under Secretary, minuted to M 'that as the amount
was voted for a specific purpose viz. the purchase of Dr Sonder's collection of dried
plants, it must be devoted to that purpose and none other. The amount unexpended (£30.3.8)
therefore lapses to revenue.' M replied the next day: 'Returned with best acknowledgement
for the information afforded', and the file was sent to the Under Treasurer.
I have the honor to be, Sir,
your obedient servant
Ferd von Mueller.
