I will gladly write to the L.S.,
dear Chev. Archer, and ask as a favor, that you be reelected instead of being readmitted,
as in the latter case you would have to pay for all the latter years the full subscription;
it is however right to mention, that the L.S. has increased lately the entrance fee
and also the annual payment.

Archer was elected a Fellow on 5 November 1874; see postscript dated 25 March 1874
to M to G. Bentham, 21 March 1874. Archer's name last appeared on the 'Fellows list' for 1882. He is not listed among
the Fellows 'withdrawn' in the reports of the anniversary meetings of 24 May 1882
or 24 May 1883, so presumably did not formally withdraw but ceased to pay his subscription.
Under these circumstances perhaps you would prefer to become a Fellow of the R. Geogr.
Soc
of London; if so, I will at once propose you.
