[Mr. A. R. Crawford has made a most remarkable and valuable discovery, being nothing less than the finding of the celebrated Tasmanian blue gum upon the tableland of New England. Mr. Crawford is a thorough naturalist in his way, and has succeeded in forwarding to Baron Von Mueller from time to time some rare and varied specimens of plants, &c. Mr. Crawford it appears knew of the existence of this gum for some time, but only recently had an opportunity of obtaining specimens of the leaves and seeds of the tree in question, which Baron Von Mueller at once pronounced to be the Tasmanian blue gum.]

There is a specimen of Eucalyptus globulus collected by Crawford in August 1887 in the National Herbarium of Victoria (MEL 0705800, as Eucalyptus globulus subsp. bicostata), which is consistent with this report and with A. Crawford to M, January 1889 (in this edition as 89-01-00e).
