The newspaper based its supportive editorial comment (p. 2) on the Circular issued by the Royal Geographical Society of Australasia, Victorian Branch, seeking support for the further exploration of Central Australia (see Circular, 24 August 1887 (in this edition as 87-08-24). The details of benefits to donors in M's letter formed a postscript in published versions of the full circular, for example in A ge (Melbourne), 17 September 1887, p. 10.
