Premiers Office
14th June 1887
Sir,
The Premier is desirous of ascertaining what the practice is in the Public Service
generally as to giving any special or extra remuneration to Officers performing the
work of other Officers during the absence of the latter on leave or from other causes.
He directs me therefore to enquire whether such remuneration is usual in your Department
and if it is what the rules with regard to it are e.g. the Rate paid whether the remuneration
is only granted in case of an officer performing the duties of a higher class than
his own, or any other circumstances relating to the practice.
Should it not be
a practice
to give such extra remuneration but yet it has been granted in special cases the
Premier requests that you will state full particulars of the cases showing the grounds
of the extra remuneration in each instance.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient servant
(sig) E. J. Thomas
Secretary to the Premier
