Melbourne,

T. R. Wilson Esqr,
Undersecretary.
Sir.
In continuation of former correspondence

Public service officers over the age of 60 needed an order to the Public Service Board to continue in employment. M had last been extended to 30 June 1887 by an order of the Executive Council on 18 January 1887, and notified in T. Wilson to M, 25 January 1887 (in this edition as 87-01-25a).
I have the honor to solicit, that my appointment as Governments Botanist may be continued through the next finance-year, my mental and physical strength allowing, to carry out yet all the duties, devolving on my position. I am anxious, that while my working power lasts, it should be exercised by the consideration of the Government to the best advantage of the Department, created by myself.

M Wilson minuted on 7 June that the Chief Secretary had told him to respond that M's position would be extended to 31 December. This was confirmed in T. Wilson to M, 14 July 1887.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
your obedient servant
Ferd von Mueller.
