Besten Dank für Ihre umsichtige Güte, edler Freund, mir die Samen (Früchte) der Anabasis Ammodendron gesandt zu haben. Wenn diese Pflanze die dürre Hitze des Innern von Australien vertragen kann, so wird sie von hoher Wichtigkeit für die Triften der Wüste werden, zumal sollten Schaafe u Rinder daran gern schmausen wollen! Vielleicht ist es Ihnen bekannt, wieviel Hitzgrade

diese Pflanze erträgt, u ob Heerden daran Nahrung finden; dann könnte ich die Pflanze als wirklich für Nutzcultur empfehlenswerth unter Ihrem verehrten Namen in die bald zu erscheinende neue englische Ausgabe der "Select Plants" aufnehmen. Noch immer hege ich die Hoffnung, dass Ihre genaue Kenntnis der Gesammt-Flora Russlands sich bleibend in einer Statistik, etwa wie die meines Census Australischer Pflanzen ausprägen wird. Dann würden wir einen leichten u klaren Überblick über die weite Gesammtflora des russischen Reiches gewinnen.

Billigen Sie die neuen Änderungen in der deutschen Schreibart, z.B. Rat anstatt Rath, u den Bindestrich zwischen einem Familien-Namen u dem eines Orts? Mir scheint, dass, in der Abwesenheit von Accents, wie solche die franz Sprache hat, das Erlernen unserer Sprache noch mehr erschwert u dazu viel Verwirrung herbeigeführt wird.

If this plant can withstand the parching heat of Australia's interior, it could become extremely important for the pastures of the desert, especially if sheep and cattle should prove to be fond of grazing on it. Perhaps you know the degree of heat this plant is able to withstand, and whether cattle find nourishment from it. Then I could record the plant under your honoured name as eminently suitable for industrial culture in the soon to be published new English edition of the "Select Plants".

I still maintain the hope that your precise knowledge of the whole Russian flora will be defined permanently in a statistic, such as my Census of Australian plants. We would then have an easy and clear synopsis of the extensive flora of the Russian empire.

Do you agree with the new changes to German spelling, e.g. 'Rat' instead of 'Rath',

In the spelling reforms that occurred from 1876, many German words until then written with 'th' had the 'h' after the 't' dropped from their spelling. These reforms were also introduced in Austria and Bavaria from 1879, Prussia from 1880 and Saxony from 1889.

and the hyphen between a family name and a place name? It seems to me that, in the absence of accents as in the French language, learning our language will only be made more difficult and it will lead to a great deal of confusion.
