Possibly, dear Mr Markham, I sought already admission for Mr D. Lindsay into the RGS., but in the enormous turmoil of work here I cannot well keep records of all things, nor can I trust to my memory. So, if he be proposed already, this candidature paper will be annulled.

Certificate of candidature not found. M had already arranged Lindsay's nomination; see the certificate, 24 January 1887 (in this edition as 87-01-24a), that had been completed in London on M's behalf.
