That is a singularly remarkable Prasophyllum, the one just sent by you, dear Mr Deane; the resupinated lower calyx-lobes are proportionately even longer than those of P. rufum and P. Archeri; I am glad, that Mr Fitzgerald will do justice to your plant in his splendid work; as the colors are not gay, P Deanei

Deane reported this letter at a meeting of the Linnean Society of NSW held on 23 February 1887 when he exhibited a specimen of the orchid and discussed its affinities (Proceedings of the Linnean Society of News South Wales, New series, vol. 2, p. 142). Fitzgerald published Prasophyllum deanianum in R. Fitzgerald (1875-94), vol. 2, part 3. TL2 suggests March 1888 for the publication date of this part, but it was reviewed as a 'new publication' in the Daily telegraph (Sydney), 22 December 1888, p, 13, and Gardeners' chronicle, 9 March 1889, p. 299 announced that it has 'just been published in Sydney'.
