Hochgeehrter Herr Baron!

Ihre Sendung von 14/10 ist mir schon seit einige Wochen zugekommen und es freuete mich sehr die Claudea Bennettyana Harv. kennen zu lernen. Wie Ihnen, so scheint es mir gewiss dass die neu gefundene mit der von Harvey beschriebene Art identisch sey. Auch bin ich von Ihrer Meinung dass die Pflanze mit mehr übereinstimmt als mit Claudea. So viel ich gesehen habe, ist das mir gütigst übersandte Exemplar nicht in Frucht; mir scheint es demnach hingestellt werden mussen ob es einen generischen Typus ausmacht. Bei Untersuchung der Structur habe ich die grösste Übereinstimmung mit , wie Ich diese in Species Algarum beschrieben habe, gefunden. Als ich bei Ankunft der Sendung eine Frage an die Redaction der Notarisia zu beantworten hatte, habe ich gleich über den glücklichen Fund der seltenen Pflanze einberichtet, und habe auch Ihrer Meinung mitgetheilt, dass sie vielleicht einen eigenen Typus ( ) ausmachen mögte, was aber erst durch die Fruchtstellung und dessen Organisation festzustellen möglich seyn werde.

Ich habe auch über verschiedene Sendungen, die ich in der letzten Zeit erhalten habe, heute zu berichten. Es ist aber kaum etwas neues darunter. Von den Algen die im letzten Jahre von Bracebr. Wilson gesammelt wurden, habe ich noch nichts gesehen. Eine kleine Sendung Algen aus Trinity Bay, North East Australia, W. Sayer 1886, sind noch nicht bestimmt. — Mit den besten Wunschen zeichnet hochachtungsvoll

Your consignment of 14 October

See M to J. Agardh, 14 October 1886 (in this edition as 86-10-14a), with an enclosed specimen of the rare Claudea bennettiana, collected by Edward Ramsay at Port Jackson, NSW.

arrived some weeks ago and it pleased me very much to get to know .

Claudea bennettiana?

It seemed to me, as to you, certain that the newly found item was identical with the species described by Harvey. Also I am of your opinion that the plant agrees more with

Vanvoorstia.

than with Claudea. As much as I have seen, the specimen kindly sent to me is not in fruit; it seems to me therefore it must be advanced whether it constitutes a generic type. On investigation of the structure, I have found the greatest agreement with , as I have described this in Species Algarum.

When on arrival of the consignment I had to answer a question to the editor of Notarisia, I reported immediately about the fortunate find of the rare plant, and also communicated your opinion that it perhaps may make up its own type ( ), which however will only be possible by determining the fruit position and its organization.

Agardh published M's name, bennettiana, in J. Agardh (1873-90), part 6, p. 117. (See the bibliographical comment in n. 2, T. Ware to M, 12 June 1874 (in this edition as 74-06-12a)).

I also have today to report on various consignments that I have received recently. However, there is hardly anything new among them. Of the algae that were collected last year by Bracebridge Wilson, I have still seen nothing. A small consignment of algae from Trinity Bay, north-east Australia,
