Letter not found. The text given here is from 'ROCKHAMPTON BOTANIC GARDENS. PANICUM SPECTABILE', Capricornian (Rockhampton),30 April 1887, p. 20, a letter from J. S. Edgar dated 29 April 1887. Based on the content of the article, M's letter that Edgar reports is dated to November 1886.
[About six months ago I received a small packet of seed of this valuable grass [Panicum spectabile] from Baron Von Mueller, and. very fortunately, one good plant was raised from it, which fully bears out the description given of it.]

Edgar's letter to the newspaper began by summarizing the description of the grass as 'a rather succulent, very fattening grass', quoting M's Select-extra tropical plants, apparently from the most recent edition, B85.12.03. it also slightly paraphrases the description of its phenomenal growth in Fiji given there, and concludes by saying that 'a few plants will be supplied to applicants at the Gardens'.
