Letter not found. The text given here is from 'Horticultural notes', Leader, 27 November 1886, p. 14. The article discusses a letter that J. Bosisto had sent to the Minister of Agriculture, where it was 'stated that "Mildew is one of the chief maladies that attack the vine in Spain and France," that "Mildew attacks and destroys the leaves, the grape."' In introducing M's comment, the article continues, 'It might have been expected that a scientific gentleman like Mr. Bosisto would have told what the mildew really is, for there are a thousand fungoid diseases which go by the name of mildew, the name being as applicable to the as to any other. As our Government Botanist remarks,'
there are more than one kind of fungus causing mildew, but the principal one is (unless ) . Professors Millardet and Planchon use a solution of sulphate of copper to which lime is added for syringing
